2019 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT WENATCHEE VALLEY COLLEGE

I’m pleased to be a 2019 Artist in Residence at Wenatchee Valley College engaging the total area of the school to create an ongoing series of temporary material-driven works utilizing found and fabricated components that will ultimately coalesce into an exhibition taking place within and without the main art building’s MAC Gallery next fall.

METANOIA: TURNING TOWARD THE LIGHT

In this work, I revealed aspects of myself as naked as I could. All veils lifted and what happened during the performance was more akin to a seance or occult ritual than anything else. A spell was cast that night — layer upon layer of negative feedback rolling off every person in the room. It wasn't art; it was real. For the first time, I felt a sense of freedom I had never known.

METANOIA: LIFE IS LIKE A SPIRAL

With this body of work: I want to tell a story, banish a kind of lingering evil, reveal aspects of myself as naked as I can, and create a place where others might see things as they possibly never have before. While this cathartic process could be fulfilling, it indeed could be a disaster, maybe a failure full of possibilities — the place I think real creativity stems from, exploding in all directions with unknown and transformative powers.

OVER A DECADE OF DREAMING

Our ambitions are focused on not only a permanent home for these classes but the desire to share what we have all learned with the next generation of artists working with light-based media and beyond. Thus, the stars aligned, and after over ten years of dreaming, the Western Neon School of Art will open in January 2018.
