2018 YEAR IN REVIEW

I can only sum up 2018 like this: bewildering, insane, transformative, humbling, and full of challenges. It seemed like an era lasting 10 years closed but left so many open doors in its wake. Among many things, I helped launch a nonprofit independent art school, lived through a seance, built a hate-jammer, installed my work at a festival, appeared in a book, completed a significant commission, and opened my first museum exhibition while writing an autobiographical novel set for release in 2019 — life is strange and beautiful.

While our shared sense of reality accelerates with quantum speed, I view craft not only as a historically informed pursuit but as one of the only essential areas of knowledge further instilled, built upon, and adapted in tandem to this splintering increase in velocity.

OVER A DECADE OF DREAMING

Our ambitions are focused on not only a permanent home for these classes but the desire to share what we have all learned with the next generation of artists working with light-based media and beyond. Thus, the stars aligned, and after over ten years of dreaming, the Western Neon School of Art will open in January 2018.
