For fall and early winter, I am preparing a body of work inspired by celestial bodies and events like sunsets, lightning, planets, star-fields, nebulae, and the phenomena of the upcoming solar eclipse — but all brought down to a mortal scale. Pulling from the methodology of artists who were active in Italy during the Arte Povera movement of the late sixties and early seventies and a back-to-basics approach in my practice, I’m attempting to create sublime experiences with found and industrial materials. My goal is simple: to connect people to something outside of themselves as directly as possible. So far, the in-progress work consists of looking, drawing and thinking as well as 3D sketching with rings of light-based media, foam core, and tape. I feel like the final series will be executed with an array of clear glass tubing and noble gasses incorporating kiln glass, pitted carbon steel, aluminum, and cast bronze.

Much of this new line of inquiry builds on past bodies of work like the recently completed ELEMENTALS as well as INTERFACE and ABSOLUTE ZERO. Additionally, read more here.
