MMXIV: THE STRANGER SUGGESTS
The year 2014—MMXIV—opens at Vermillion, bathed in a ghostly glow from the light fixtures on the walls, sculptures made by Seattle’s Dylan Neuwirth. Each is a tweet spelled out in cursive white neon letters, saying things like “good morning haters” and “just be your selfie.” They are the type of unmoored clever that leads back to no particular personality or event, except to all those hovering in the cyberlife of Twitter. Beneath each sculpture is a factory-made neon transformer strapped neatly to a cinder block with two black zip ties—a unit resembling a cross between an antennaed television and a homemade explosive device.
